“Watch Her Dance”

A big thank you and credit for this song’s concept and inspiration goes out to Clipper Joe O’Hagan, a great friend, storyteller and former haircutter extraordinaire. Thayne and I would make a whole day of it when we had our hair cut by Joe; out in Kilauea under a thatched roof, next to a little waterfall. A haircut by Clipper included the most entertaining stories and it was on one of these occasions when Joe told us a story about his sister. It started with, “She runs like a duck with a broken wing and she really acts like a Quaker in most everything she does.” I immediately wrote those words down and knew someday, they would find their way to a song. Mahalo Joe!
Lyrics
She walks like a duck with a broken wing.
She acts like a Quaker in most everything
But get her out onto the dance floor the crowd’s gonna yell
More more more more!
Watch her dance, watch her dance
watch her dance, watch her danceHer heart is dance’n happy and she’s in the groove
Watch her danceShe rolls her belly like the waves on the Nile
you can’t help but watch, you can’t help but smile
She moves her hips in a meaningful way
the rest of her say’n come on over let’s play!
Watch her dance, watch her dance
watch her dance, watch her danceHer heart is dance’n happy and she’s in the groove
Watch her danceSome tap their feet, some nod their heads
some got the moves that’ll wake the dead
Everybody’s doin’ it in their own way,
this party won’t end till the break of day
Watch her dance, watch her dance
watch her dance, watch her danceHer heart is dance’n happy and she’s in the groove
Watch her danceShe walks like a duck with a broken wing,
she acts like a Quaker in most everything
But get her out onto the dance floor, the crowd’s gonna yell
More more more more!
Watch her dance, watch her dance
watch her dance, watch her danceHer heart is dance’n happy and she’s in the groove
Watch her danceHer heart is dance’n happy and she’s in the groove
Watch her dance
